OMG Eurovision is one of my favorite movies and I’ve been dying to write about it!!!
Okay so I was just scrolling through Netflix one day, trying to see what could be of interest, when suddenly I see the poster for EUROVISION. I stared at the actress wondering who she was. I was like… why does she look so familiar?! As I went into the movie details, I saw the name Rachel McAdams and it hit me. I was like wait… WAIT ๐๐๐ RACHEL MCADAMS!? Oh my goodness… I used to LOVE watching her movies!!!!! Where has she been!? Where have I been!? OH right, I was living under a rock for the past decade or so lol. Oopsy xD
My absolute favorite movies back in the days were:
The Notebook — obviously. One of the most romantic movies ever made, and actually quite relatable for me. I think it always warms my heart watching Allie choose her heart over whatever path was set for her that might not have been authentic for what her soul had wanted ๐ฅบ
Mean Girls — total classic. Rachel McAdams as Regina George is ICONIC. I think she did SUCH a great job with that role and I’m so glad she was picked for that instead of the main role because she definitely made it WORK. What a legend.
The Time Traveler’s Wife — omg this movie WRECKED me. I used to watch it so many times back in the day. Idk why I was so into it, but maybe it’s the everlasting love story??? Obviously, it was a very complicated love story given that her lover just poofs out of thin air and comes back whenever randomly. However, there was this fated element to it that really caught my attention — how they met when she was young and somehow just through all of the messiness of the situation, their love is still strong. Oddly enough, this kind of reminds me of the twin flame push and pull trope but with the added mystical element of uncontrollable time travel lol. I think devotion is something that’s very near and dear to me and so whenever I encounter it in creative content, it always kind of sticks with me.
The Hot Chick — okay this one is hilarious because she doesn’t even have that many scenes in it but for some reason this movie just SLAPS for me and I think of her every time I hear the name lol. Idk why but in my mind, Rob Schneider’s acting transfers to her for some reason??? It’s SO strange. I can’t explain it but whatever. Maybe I was just a giant fan girl of hers back in the day lol.
So imagine my surprise when she shows up in this Will Ferrell musical, of all things, PLUS the fact that it’s a musical?? Sign me up IMMEDIATELY!!!
Needless to say, I loved this movie SO much. It hit all of the right notes for me. Everything about it was SO deeply special. Even though I literally had nothing I wanted to watch on Netflix, I kept my subscription for quite some time because of this one movie so I could go back to it since I can’t find the movie anywhere else lmao.
My absolute favorite scene is when she’s talking to the Elves while giving them gifts:
I thought it was so heartwarming and cute because it’s something I’d absolutely imagine doing myself lol. Her character is just so… cute and adorable in the most endearing way possible. Pure. Genuine. An incredibly loving person with a big heart. AND THE ACCENT ๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ SO KAWAII~
But here’s the thing that really got me — this was actually my first, “wait a minute… my favorite actress is middle-aged now??” experience. Which means I’m — okay let’s not finish that sentence hehehe. But it cracked something open in me, like… who else have I been missing? Who else has been out there slaying while I was hiding under my rock, completely unaware of the world?
And that little realization launched a whole rediscovery rabbit hole — actors, singers, people I had completely forgotten about who have all grown up and are absolutely thriving now. Like… my beloved Baby V.O.X ๐๐ฅฐ๐
What I really adore about Rachel though — beyond the nostalgia — is how deeply she gets into her roles. She’s a genuinely talented actress and I have so much respect for the craft she brings. And she has matured so beautifully with age. Very self-possessed. Incredibly elegant. The kind of woman who feels completely at home in herself โจ
Omg… if the opportunity were to ever arise, I’d love to meet her one day. Self possessed women are just *chef’s kiss. Extremely powerful to experience in person. Don’t wait for me to write another Dear Universe, universe lol. Make it happen, chop chop!
Anyway, before I go, I’d like to leave you with this ๐ฅ song. Enjoy!
Pizza!
